COVID Guidelines - YMCA of Southwestern Indiana

COVID Guidelines

We plan to follow all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines to operate our facilities in the safest way possible as that information becomes available and/or changes. To keep our members and staff safe and protected while using our facilities, you can expect the following special guidelines.

YMCA Changes In Effect

Facility Access

  • If you or anyone in your household has been asked to quarantine by any entity (employer, school, Health Department, etc) or are feeling sick, we ask that you stay home and not visit our buildings or attend programs until quarantine has been lifted AND you are symptom free for 24 hours. If you have had a fever, we ask you to refrain from coming into the Y or working in a program until fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever – reducing medications and improvement in symptoms.
  • Face coverings are welcome and recommended but not required for members and program participants in our facilities.
  • Nationwide membership access and Member Guest passes are being accepted. Paid Day passes are also available for purchase but with a daily limit based on facility capacity.
  • Members should have their YMCA scan card ready.
  • 6ft social distancing is recommended throughout the building.
  • Both facilities will be open 5AM – 9PM M-Th, 5AM – 8PM Fri, 6AM – 6PM Sat, and 12PM – 6PM Sun.
  • Additional signage will be placed throughout the building to encourage social distancing, hand-washing, and cleanliness.

Locker Rooms

  • We encourage you to come ready in your workout clothes.
  • Please bring your own lock, try to use every fourth locker and try to position yourself relative to others for social distancing.
  • Towel service is not available. We encourage you to bring your own towel.
  • Wash your hands often and before exiting the locker rooms.

Wellness Center

  • Members should wipe down machines before and after use with cleaning spray (which will be given to you upon entering) and paper towels. Staff will conduct additional cleaning of equipment throughout the day. Please take care to spray your paper towel first and do not directly spray the electronic console of machines like treadmills and bikes. This helps maintain our equipment.
  • Use hand sanitizing stations and/or wash your hands before & after use.

  • Towel service is not available. We encourage you to bring your own towel.

A Clean Environment

  • Staff are required to wear face masks in common areas, while interacting with members/participants, and while cleaning/disinfecting surfaces and areas.
  • Additional barriers like sneeze guards have been installed at the membership and wellness desks.
  • Contact with surfaces have been limited as much as possible including members scanning their own YMCA cards and ongoing sanitation of shared/community materials like pens and clipboards.
  • Shared surfaces such as door handles, countertops, phones, computer keyboards, and touchscreens are cleaned throughout the day.
  • Machines and equipment are cleaned before and after use. Members are given their own bottle of cleaner at the wellness desk when they enter the Wellness area. Equipment will also be sanitized by staff throughout the day.
  • Our facilities are thoroughly cleaned with electrostatic foggers each evening, and additional areas of the building are fogged throughout the day depending on programming and activity.

We will continue to review these guidelines regularly and communicate through email, our website, and social media to meet federal, state, and local guidance.
