Our YMCA believes that our community should grow stronger together by hosting a number of health initiatives and events that support our community in spirit, mind, and body.

Training Programs for Races

The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana offers a training program for individuals interested in the October race. This volunteer led program helps individuals from all types of backgrounds gain confidence, improve health and establish friendships while training toward a common goal.

Jump Start – Begins Mid May

Free program to members and non-members

The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana and our team of volunteers is offering a FREE 7 week program to help you start making your way toward a healthier version of yourself this year! Training starts at 1 mile and work up to 3 consecutive miles over 7 weeks.

The goal is to be ready for a 5K at the end of the training. As well as, transition from Jump Start to the Team 13 Program with the end result being completion of the Evansville Half Marathon presented by German American Bank in the fall.

Registration includes in-person training sessions, routes, encouragement, and camaraderie! Private Facebook group to provide support for those who are training on their own. Provides a community to support your goals, answer your questions and encourage you! You will have fun, meet people, and be inspired to make lifestyle changes along the way.

Trainings are held on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 6 pm and Saturdays at 7 am.

Team 13 – Begins Early July

Nominal fee for members and non members

Thousands of people have worked with volunteer trainers in this program to train for and complete the Evansville Half Marathon. This training is designed to help individuals at all fitness levels train for the half marathon. This program meets three times a week for 13 weeks – all paces and experience levels are welcome.

The goal is to be ready for the Evansville Half Marathon presented by German American Bank at the end of the training.

Registration includes a t-shirt for the first 500 participants, in-person training sessions with scheduled mileage and locations, door prizes, access to email updates, and a special race bib! Private Facebook group to provide support for those who are training on their own. Provide a community to support your goals, answer your questions and encourage you!

Informational meeting and kick off will be held in late June.

All trainings take place on Tuesday and Thursday at 6 pm and on Saturdays at 7 am.

Evansville Half Marathon

The Annual Evansville Half Marathon presented by German American is held the Saturday before Fall Festival. Typically, the last Saturday in September or the first Saturday in October. Make Plans now to participate in this great community event!

Community CPR/AED Training
The American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) CPR and AED is combined CPR/AED program designed specifically for those who do not work in the healthcare field but are occupationally required to, or desire to, have CPR knowledge and skills. This training is suited for emergency response teams in business and industry, school bus drivers, teachers, and child care workers.

Rock Steady Boxing
Rock Steady Boxing is a unique exercise program, based on training used by boxing pros that is adapted for people with Parkinson’s disease.  The program involves regular exercises, such as stretching, bicycling, running, jump-roping, push-ups, balancing and lots of non-contact boxing, led by experienced trainers/coaches.  This program serves both men and women of all ages and levels of ability, giving people with Parkinson’s disease hope.  The program enables people with Parkinson’s to fight their illness by providing non-contact boxing-style fitness classes that improve their quality of life.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA
Cancer is a devastating diagnosis for people of all ages and backgrounds. Going through a diagnosis and various forms of treatment can take a serious toll on a person both physically and emotionally. LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA focuses on you – the whole person – not the disease by providing support and guidance to help rebuild and gain strength.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is a FREE 12-week program for adult cancer survivors that meet twice a week for 90 minutes. YMCA instructors work with each participant to fit the program to his or her individual needs. The instructors are trained in the elements of cancer, post rehab exercise and supportive cancer care.
