Annual Events

The YMCA hosts a number of annual events that not only challenge our community test their limits and reach personal goals but also provide fundraising support for our many outreach programs in the community.

5K on the Runway

The YMCA 5K on the Runway and Family Fun Day will be held at Tri-State Aero. The YMCA 5K on the Runway is a great opportunity to participate in a spring race and experience the airport runway while supporting a great cause.  It’s a super fun and unique 5K that explores the runway, airport access roads and more.

YMCA Race Series

The YMCA Series of Races is a three race series designed to challenge and motivate. Series scoring for these events also presents a great opportunity for additional prizes and personal achievement.

The Series includes:

  • YMCA 5K/10K – August
  • YMCA 15K – September
  • Evansville Half Marathon – October
Evansville Half Marathon

The Annual Evansville Half Marathon presented by German American is held in early October. Make Plans now to participate in this great community event!

Spirit, Mind and Body Triathlon/Duathlon

This event takes place at beautiful Scales Lake Park in Boonville. The sprint distance is .5 mile swim, 15 mile bike and 5K run, olympic distance is 1 mile swim, 25 mile bike and 10K run and the duathlon (new this year) is 1K run, 15 mile bike and 5K run. The courses are very shady and scenic with rolling hills and low traffic.

Need some motivation this winter? Join us for an indoor Tri held annual in February. The Dunigan Branch offers a “one hour race” – 15 minutes of each: swim in pool, cycle on our stationary bikes and run on the track. We’ll count your laps! T-shirts, goodie bags and finisher medals for everyone!

Training Programs for Races

The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana offers a training program for individuals interested in the October race. This volunteer led program helps individuals from all types of backgrounds gain confidence, improve health and establish friendships while training toward a common goal.

“Jump Start” Training – Begins in late May

Free program to members and non-members

Registration includes training sessions, YMCA passes, encouragement and camaraderie!  This seven week program is designed for those beginners interested in training for the goal of completing a half marathon and needing assistance increasing mileage to prepare for the “Team 13” program.

“Team 13” Training – Begins in mid July

Nominal fee for members and non members

Registration fee includes a commemorative gift, door prizes, access to email updates, a special race number identifying you as a training participant and much more!

Over the past several years thousands of people have worked with volunteer trainers to train for and complete the Evansville Half Marathon. This training is designed to help individuals at all fitness levels find success. This is your chance to begin or better your training program for the October race. Informational meeting and kick off will be held in mid July.

All trainings will take place on Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00 p.m. and on Saturdays at 7:00 a.m. Training program is open to the community. Click Here for more information or to register for training.
