Our various classes will help connect you with trained instructors and encouraging members. From cardio to cycling to yoga to youth exercise, we have classes for all ages, all abilities, and all interests to help you find what moves you.

Water Activities

Water Exercise Class
Our water exercise classes have everything that you’re looking for! Flexibility, range of motion, muscle conditioning, improved cardiovascular endurance and muscle tone by using the buoyancy and resistance of the water. This is a great way to workout with no impact or harmful effects on joints/muscles and stay cool. Ideal for all fitness levels, non-swimmers included. Arthritis Foundation Aquatics Program
This is a low impact water exercise program for individuals with arthritis or other physical impairments. Water buoyancy and resistance exercises are designed to help increase joint mobility and muscle strength as well as provide exercise and relieve discomfort.

Hydroriders
Hydroriders are user-friendly, in-water cycling bikes that are perfect for any skill level. These biking-in-the-water classes mix the cardio and lower-body conditioning of spin with the gentle-on-the-joints resistance of the water. The class puts stationary bikes in the pool to place riders in waist-to-chest water while pedaling away. Member should reserve a bike at the front desk of the Downtown YMCA 24 hours in advance of class. Call 812-423-9622 or stop by the front desk to make your reservation.

Teen/Adult Swim Instruction
It’s never too late to learn to swim! We offer adult swim lessons for ages 14 years old and up. Our trained aquatics staff will teach you how to learn to float, acquire safety skills, or become a proficient lap swimmer. We offer private or group adult swim lessons.

Land Exercise Classes

We are always here for you, from beginning to live healthier to making new connections and friends. Our well trained staff is here to get you started and answer any questions you may have. Athletic Stretch
For all fitness levels, this class is designed to help all athletes (runners, cyclists, weight lifters, etc) improve their flexibility, balance, joint mobility & breath awareness. Yoga props are used to release tight muscles and to assist in deepening the poses.
Boxing - HITT
Advanced/High-Intensity; This is a station-based workout that uses traditional exercise equipment such as dumbbells, medicine balls and sand bells, as well as battle  ropes, heavy bags and speed bags to create a non-contact high intensity full-body workout  that will push your limits and get results. This is a fun and fast-paced workout that will leave you craving more. Beginners are welcome and exercise modifications will be given so all participants feel successful.  First-timers, please arrive 10-15  minutes early. Required equipment can be provided for first-timers, but you must purchase your own beyond that. (wraps and gloves).
Boxing Fitness
Intermediate-Advanced; This class combines non-contact basic boxing fundamentals, plyometric exercises and high intensity training  that has both physical and mental benefits. You will build cardio endurance, burn calories, and gain self-confidence in this unique and challenging fitness class. First timers, please arrive 10-15 minutes early! Required equipment can be provided for first-timers, but you must purchase your own beyond that. (wraps and gloves).
Boxing Fitness - Kids
For ages 6-12 – For all fitness levels; This youth class will combine non-contact basic boxing fundamentals, plyometric exercises that have both physical and mental benefits. Youth will channel their energy into boxing-related exercises while having fun during class. Required equipment can be provided for first-timers, but you must purchase your own beyond that. (wraps and gloves).
Cycle
For all fitness levels; This class offers great cardio benefits with no impact on the joints. Your instructor will lead you on a ride through fast, flat roads, rolling hills and long, slow climbs. A reservation is required. Reserve your bike beginning 72 hours prior to class start time in the mobile app.
Cycling - Virtual
Allows you to come into class and escape through the scenery that the screen takes you through. Class is led by video, no instructor.
Les Mills BarreTM
All fitness levels; This class is a modern version of classic balletic training designed to shape and tone postural muscles, build core strength, and allow you to escape the everyday. The Barre class is a combination of cardio and strength with high reps of small range-of-motion movements and very light weights. We offer 30 and 45-minute options. We encourage new exercisers to utilize the Smart Start.
Les Mills BodyAttackTM
Intermediate-Advanced; Body Attack is a high-energy fitness class combining athletic moves that cater for total beginners to total addicts. We combine athletic movements like running, lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats all set to energizing music that can help you burn up to 555 calories. You’ll walk away feeling sweaty and with a sense of accomplishment. Available in 30, 45, and 55-minute workouts. We encourage new exercisers to utilize the Smart Start.
Les Mills BodyCombatTM
Intermediate-Advanced; Body Combat is a high-energy martial arts inspired workout that is totally non-contact. Punch and kick your way to fitness and burn up to 570 calories in a class. No experience needed. Learn moves from Karate, Taekwondo, Boxing, Muay Thai, Capoeira, and Kung Fu. Release your stress, have a blast, and feel like a champ when you leave. Available in 45 and 55-minute workouts. We encourage new exercisers to utilize the Smart Start.

Beginner-Advanced; This class is for anyone looking to get lean, toned and fit-fast. Les Mills CORETM
Intermediate-Advanced; This 30 or 45-minute workout uses resistance tubes and weights to work every part of your core – upper and lower abs, obliques, the upper and lower back as well as your butt and shoulders. This is a great complimentary class to any cardio program. Participants typically see and feel results in their midsection just after a few classes. It’s a challenging class, but instructors will provide options to decrease intensity. The 45-minute class will offer additional cardio for a full-body workout. We encourage new exercisers to utilize the Smart Start.
Les Mills GRITTM
Intermediate-Advanced/High-Intensity; This is a 30-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout designed to improve strength, cardiovascular fitness, and build lean muscle. You will use a variety of equipment such as a barbell, weight plate, bench, risers, and your own body weight to blast all major muscle groups. Cutting edge HIIT movements combined with powerful music and inspirational coaches will motivate you to go harder to get fit, fast! We encourage new exercisers to utilize the Smart Start.
Les Mills RPMTM
Beginner-Advanced; This is an indoor cycling class, set to the rhythm of motivating music. Burn up to 500 calories a workout and get fit fast. You control your own resistance levels and sprint speed so you can build up your training level over time. 30, 45 and 60-minute options are available. A reservation is required. Reserve your bike beginning 72 hours prior to class start time in the mobile app. We encourage new exercisers to utilize the Smart Start.
Power Cardio
For all fitness levels; This high-intensity cardio interval class is always changing to keep your muscles guessing. We use a variety of equipment to mix things up! You’ll combine cardio, strength, and core exercises to give you a total body workout that leaves you sweaty and feeling successful.
ShockWave
Intermediate-Advanced; Shockwave is a 30-minute circuit style class that uses the Water Rower to provide short-burst, high-intensity, calorie-torching intervals to drive your heart rate. We combine functional strength and sculpting exercise stations to target the legs, arms, and core. For ages 14 and up.
SilverSneakers® Classic
Beginner AOA; this low impact class is performed with music from both a seated and standing position (staying seated is an option) and alternates between low impact moves, balance, and strength work using resistance tubes, exercise ball and light dumbbells. Exercises are performed that mimic everyday movements and will help increase mobility and strength in the major joints and muscles.
SilverSneakers® Cardio Circuit
Beginner-Intermediate AOA; this low impact cardio class is presented in a circuit format that alternates between low impact choreographed moves, balance and strength work using resistance tubes, exercise ball and light dumbbells. The cardio and balance portions of the class are performed standing, but strength exercises may be done standing or seated in a chair.
Tai Chi
Beginner-Intermediate/AOA; the practice of bringing the body and mind as one, in balance.
TRX® Group Suspension Training
TRX (Totalbody Resistance Exercise) training will enhance your performance in sport and life. Whether you’re just beginning your journey into fitness or pushing towards your summit, TRX Training gives you a scalable, sustainable, fun, effective approach to help you achieve your personal best. TRX Training helps you become better at what you do, whatever you do, and keeps training fun so it feels like recess instead of a chore. Suspension Training bodyweight exercise builds all body strength, flexibility and your core at the same time. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Class variations include BodyBlast, Bootcamp, Circuit.
Yoga
Yoga classes focus on flexibility, balance, relaxation and the connection of spirit, mind, and body without chanting, meditation, or non-Christian religious connotations.
Yoga - Aerial
For all fitness levels; This class combines yoga movements and a silk hammock hung from the ceiling which provides support and allows you to hang upside-down if you want. An accessible practice that can help you find proper alignment in your postures and safely create length through the spine. Some benefits of this class include increasing core and upper body strength, improved balance and focus, spinal decompression and it is great for stress relief! It may take a few classes to get used to the hammock; if you are prone to motion sickness, it may not agree with you. No metal jewelry or zippers allowed in Aerial Yoga and we recommend form-fitting clothing and shirts with sleeves for comfort. This class is not recommended for expectant mothers.  *Aerial Yoga is for Y members ONLY and for ages 14 and up. Reservations are required. Reserve your hammock beginning 72 hours prior to class start time in the mobile app.
Yoga - Chair
All fitness levels. Chair Yoga is taught from both a seated and standing position, in combination with restorative breathing exercises, to enhance the flow and energy created by the various poses.
Yoga - Hot
This all levels class will guide participants through the basic Hot Yoga poses. It is intended to meet the needs of beginners all the way to advanced students. Like all yoga classes, it is designed to help build strength, balance, flexibility, focus and good posture.
Yoga - Kids
Yoga comes to life in this fun and creative class designed to stimulate a young child’s growing curiosity. Kids Yoga has playful poses, animated breathing exercises and imaginative relaxation techniques. We’ll spark the child’s inner yogini while enhancing language development, motor coordination and play skills. Classes are an equal balance between active and passive poses with classes available for ages 3-5 and 6-12.
Yoga - Power
Intermediate-Advanced; Power Yoga will link movements and poses to breath for exercise without chanting, meditation or connotations. This class will move quickly through advanced flow sequences designed to increase heart rate and build strength and flexibility and may incorporate advanced balance poses and/or inversions. Options will be given to reduce difficulty. We recommend a medical release for expectant mothers or those with medical conditions for Hot Yoga (100+ degrees) and Warm Yoga (80-85 degrees). All classes will offer modifications to increase or decrease intensity. *Hot and Warm Yoga are for Y members, ages 14 & up ONLY. It is important you bring water to this class. We encourage members to bring a towel and their own mat.
Yoga - Warm
Active, flowing movement linked to breath, followed by exquisite, restful and restorative practices – all set to music in a room set at a warm 85°.
Zumba®
For all fitness levels; Dance along to latin and international music in this cardio interval format class. Burn the calories and bring the heat while dancing to the beat of your drum! Each instructor offers their own unique style.

Wellness Services

Youth Wellness Orientation

Youth Wellness Orientations are free and required for our youth members 10-13 years old. This orientation provides information on what equipment is approved for them to use based on their age. Along with learning proper use of equipment, safety, and how exercise affects the body, participants also learn how to set up a fitness program and use the cardiovascular and weight training equipment with proper technique. Fitness Assessments
A certified Personal Trainer performs baseline measurements from which your progress can be tracked. Fitness Assessments include body weight, height, blood pressure, resting heart rate, body composition, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility, muscular fitness, and range of motion. We establish a plan to move you forward toward improved health, fitness, and performance goals.
Nutritional Counseling

Meeting one-on-one with our Registered Dietitian will help hold you accountable and provide you with face to face encouragement and support you need. Sessions will include an assessment of current nutrition status, education and counseling for a healthier lifestyle.
