Babysitting 101

At the YMCA, we believe in child safety, and we’re committed to doing whatever it takes to keep all children safe—even when they aren’t in our direct care. Our Babysitting 101 program empowers young caregivers ages 10-16 with essential skills to confidently manage care for siblings, younger children, or neighborhood kids. Designed for youth staying home alone after school, those responsible for watching younger siblings, or eager to begin babysitting for others, this course teaches the basics of first aid and CPR, prevention techniques for choking and water hazards, and responses to common challenges that babysitters or children home alone may encounter.

Participants will also gain hands-on experience with infant and child feeding and diapering, plus tips on creating engaging activities to entertain children of all ages safely. Each student will receive a CABS certification card, a comprehensive workbook with space for notes, and a first aid kit. With Babysitting 101, our goal is to equip young caregivers with practical skills, confidence, and the support they need to provide safe and enjoyable care.
