At the YMCA, we are committed to supporting individuals living with Parkinson’s disease through specialized programs designed to improve quality of life and promote physical activity. Our Parkinson’s Support Programs include Rock Steady Boxing, a non-contact boxing-based fitness regimen, and Pedaling for Parkinson’s, a cycling program that enhances mobility and strength. These programs are tailored to help participants improve balance, flexibility, and overall wellness in a supportive community environment. Whether you’re looking to stay active or connect with others facing similar challenges, the YMCA is here to empower you on your journey with Parkinson’s.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only be still.”
Exodus 14:14
Rock Steady Boxing is a unique exercise program, based on training used by boxing pros that is adapted for people with Parkinson’s disease. The program involves regular exercises, such as stretching, bicycling, running, jump-roping, push-ups, balancing and lots of non-contact boxing, led by experienced trainers/coaches. This program serves both men and women of all ages and levels of ability, giving people with Parkinson’s disease hope. The program enables people with Parkinson’s to fight their illness by providing non-contact boxing-style fitness classes that improve their quality of life.

Pedaling a bicycle may change the life of someone with Parkinson’s disease. Research conducted at the Cleveland Clinic showed 35% reduction in symptoms by the simple act of pedaling a bicycle at a rapid pace – optimally, 80-90 revolutions per minute. Fast pedaling is not a cure for Parkinson’s disease, but there is compelling evidence to show that it does make a real difference in many who try it.
