February Scripture of the Month
And he believed the LORD, and He counted it to him as righteousness. — Genesis 15:6
The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana Inc., following the example of Jesus Christ, responds to community needs by serving all people, especially youth, through relationships and activities that promote healthy spirit, mind and body.
Our impact is felt when an individual makes a healthy choice, when a mentor inspires a child, and when a community comes together for the common good.
Founded in 1857 by E. H. Sabin, the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana is a volunteer-based organization that contributes to the lives of individuals of all ages, races, religions, and economic backgrounds. We are a not-for-profit organization with the unique opportunity to touch the lives of infants through seniors throughout the community.
The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana is blessed to offer the community six YMCA Branches that are committed to building strong kids, strong families, and strong communities by providing programs based on five core values–Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility, and Faith.
The Ascension St. Vincent YMCA, Dunigan Family YMCA, Toyota Indiana YMCA, YMCA Child Care Services, YMCA Community Outreach, and YMCA Camp Carson Branches are part of a worldwide movement in more than 130 countries, with over 2500 YMCAs in the United States. If you would like to find out more about the YMCA movement or locate a YMCA you would like to visit, please visit the YMCA of the USA.
We know that lasting personal and social change comes about when we all work together. That’s why, at the Y, strengthening community is our cause. Every day, we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
Our nation and community face unprecedented challenges, and the Y wants to open its doors to more people who can benefit from what we have to offer.
At the Y, we’ve always known that positive change only comes about when we invest in our kids, our health, and our neighbors. And that’s why we’re here. We have three areas of focus:
Values and skills learned early are vital building blocks for life. Because of the Y, more young people are taking a greater interest in learning and making smarter life choices. Children and teens learn values and positive behaviors, and can explore their unique talents and interests, helping them realize their potential. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.
Being healthy means more than simply being physically active; it’s maintaining a balanced spirit, mind, and body. At the Y, you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bringing your loved ones closer together through our many family-centered activities. At the Y, it’s not about the activity you choose as much as it is about the benefits of living healthier on the inside as well as the outside.
We know that when we work as one, we move people and communities forward. That’s why we are committed to providing support to our neighbors and opportunities for kids, adults and families to give, join in or advocate in the name of stronger communities.
So while we’ve changed our appearance to better reflect the work we do and the positive impact we make, we’re still supporting this community in the same way we always have. We look forward to enriching more lives and more families, and to further strengthening this community for decades to come.
