What is the Better Together Member Referral Program?
The Member Referral Program is a way for you to build a community of your friends at the Y. When you refer a friend, both you and your friend will receive 20% off your monthly membership fee!
How do I get started?
To participate, simply complete the Referral form online or in branch, give it to your friend and invite them to join, and make sure your friend brings the referral form when they join.
Does my friend have to be with me to join?
Your friend does not need to be with you, but your friend does need to bring the completed referral form with them when they join.
Do my friend and I have to be at the same branch?
No. Your friend can join any YMCA of Southwestern Indiana location: Ascension St Vincent YMCA, Dunigan Family YMCA, or Toyota Indiana YMCA.
Who can refer or be referred?
- You are not eligible if you have a discounted membership type such as corporate memberships, assistance memberships, staff memberships, or 3rd party memberships (Silver Sneakers, Silver & Fit, and Renew Active).
- You are not eligible to be referred if you were an active member less than 90 days ago.
- Current members cannot recruit other current members with the Better Together Referral Program. You will need to refer someone who is not currently a member to be eligible for the 20% monthly savings.
- YMCA Staff are not eligible for the referral program.
What if I already have a discount applied to my monthly membership fee?
You are welcome to continue referring new friends to the Y. However, Corporate Memberships, Assistance Memberships, Staff Memberships, or 3rd Party Memberships are ineligible for the 20% savings because discounts cannot be combined.
How long is this reduced rate valid?
The reduced rate received from a referral is good for as long as both parties remain members.
What happens if one of us leaves the Y?
Should one of you cancel your membership, the remaining member has 32 days to have a new referral friend join the Y in order to keep their discounted membership rate. If you have no other referral friends “on your bench”, your monthly membership rate will resume at the full-rate for your membership type after 32 days. But don’t worry, you’ll be notified if there’s a change to either membership.
Can I refer more than one person?
Yes! You can only receive a maximum 20% reduced membership rate, but we encourage you to refer multiple friends to ensure you’ll continue saving even if one of our referred friends leaves the Y or no longer qualifies for the program.
Why should I stack my “referral bench”?
The Better Together Member Referral Program is contingent upon the active membership status of the person who referred you or the people that you refer. The more people you have to move into your primary referral friend spot, the better chance you have at continuing to receive your 20% savings if your primary referral friend cancels their membership. The more referral friends you have, the safer your savings are!
I referred my friend and my friend joined, when do we receive our reduced rate?
The Better Together Member Referral rate will go into effect after the referred membership is purchased. Your savings will be reflected on your next bank draft. You will receive notification from our system when your friend joins.
Does changing my existing membership type qualify me for the 20% savings?
No. Changes to your membership type like adding an adult or family member is considered a membership upgrade and does not qualify for the Better Together Member Referral program. Referrals must be outside of your current membership unit/household.
Can a member cancel and re-join as another member’s referral?
A member can refer you only if you have not been an active member for a least 90 days.
Will the Better Together membership referral program rate ever increase?
Yes, you will still be subject to future rate increases. However, your rate will still reflect a 20% savings as long as both members are still active in good standing.
