Aquatics

The YMCA’s Aquatic Programs provide a welcoming environment for all ages, from infants to seniors. We’re honored to be your family’s choice for aquatics and pledge to support participants in swim, character, and community.

Our dedicated staff encourages everyone, from beginners taking their first splash to experienced swimmers refining their skills. Through structured lessons and recreational programs, we foster water confidence and learning at your own pace.

Swimming is more than a skill—it’s an adventure promoting water safety, personal growth, and lifelong friendships. Our programs cater to all ages, from introducing infants to the water to swim classes for kids and adults, and fitness sessions for seniors.

Join the YMCA to experience the joy of swimming and a vibrant community!

“The Earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it,
the world and all who live in it;
for He founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the waters.”

Psalm 24 1-2

Aquatics FAQ
How do I know which level of swim lessons is appropriate for my child(ren)?

Since our lessons are skill based, this Lesson Selector can help guide you to the appropriate class level.

Does my baby need a swim diaper?

Until your child is fully potty trained, he/she must wear a swim diaper at all times in the pool.

Is my child old enough to swim on their own?

To make our pools safe for everyone, anyone 9 years or younger must have an adult with them. Anyone 10 and 11 years old will need an adult to check them in, stay in the building, and the child may swim alone. Anyone 12 or older may swim alone. If any child 12 or under wants to swim in the deep end (over 5′ of water), aquatics staff will issue a swim test to ensure the child is capable to swim safely. If they pass the test, they will be issued a green neck band when visiting. The results of these tests are recorded in your account.

Are flotation devices allowed?

All flotation devices must be coast guard approved to be used in both facilities. Please note that mermaid tails are not permitted in our pools due to safety.

When are the inside Splash features at the Dunigan pool available?

The Aquatics staff would be happy to turn on the inner water features anytime we are not having water fitness classes or swim lessons. Simply ask the lifeguard if those features can be turned on. Water Features will not be available during Sensory Friendly Swim Hour.

When is the outside Splash Pad at Dunigan open?

Our Dunigan location has a Splash Pad outside for children to use during the summer months when weather permits. The Splash Pad officially opens Memorial Day weekend. During the summer season, the Splash Pad is open Mon-Fri 11:00AM-7:00PM, Sat 9:00AM-5:00PM and Sunday 12:30PM-5:00PM. The Splash Pad will be open as long as the temperature is 72° or warmer. During inclement weather, the Splash Pad will close if lightning is detected within 15 miles. The Splash Pad closes for the season after Labor Day.

Can guests make a lap lane reservation?

Guests may reserve a lap lane, but you must have an account in our system in order to make a reservation. Walk-ins are welcome, however reservations will take priority. Reservations start 3 days before the start time up until the time begins.
